Chechen migrants in Europe protest against deportation of Ali Bataev

Protest actions were held in front of the Embassies of Switzerland in Germany and Sweden with the demand to prevent the deportation of Ali Bataev, who arrived from Ukraine, to Russia, reports Mokhmad Abdurakhmanov, a spokesperson for the Chechen human rights association “Vayfond”. The police are putting pressure on Ali Bataev’s relatives living in Chechnya, states Zainap Gashaeva, a spokesperson for the “European House of Peace” organization.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 14, it became known that the authorities of Switzerland considered the stay in the country of Ali Bataev, a native of Chechnya, who arrived from Ukraine, to be illegal and intend to deport him to Russia. Ali Bataev has declared a hunger strike, as he believes that he will be persecuted by the authorities of Chechnya. On July 21, protest actions were held in Switzerland, Austria, and Germany against the deportation of Ali Bataev to Russia.

Today, two rallies have been held in Berlin and Stockholm in front of the Embassies of Switzerland, Mokhmad Abdurakhmanov, a spokesperson for the Chechen human rights association “Vayfond”, said on the air of the “Dozhd” (Rain)* TV Channel. According to Mokhmad Abdurakhmanov, at a rally in Germany, protestors handed over a resolution to a representative of the Swiss security service with the demand not to extradite Ali Bataev to Russia.

Earlier, Mokhmad Abdurakhmanov has emphasized the authorities of Switzerland suggest that nothing threatens Ali Bataev in Russia and that he will face exceptionally fair trial. According to spokesperson for the Chechen human rights association “Vayfond”, such an approach demonstrates the “double standards” of the Swiss authorities.
