Kuban resident fined for discrediting Russian Armed Forces when chatting

A court imposed a fine amounting to 30,000 roubles on a resident of the Ust-Labinsky District, recognizing his statements in a messenger chat as discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. The above was reported by the press service for the Directorate for the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 4, 2022, liability for discrediting the Russian Armed Forces was introduced, after which residents of the country, including the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and the Southern Federal District (SFD), began to be brought to responsibility under the new article. It provides for the maximum punishment for citizens in the form of a fine of 50,000 roubles, but a repeated violation within a year implies criminal prosecution.

According to the law enforcement bodies’ version, the 49-year-old man posted in a general chat in a messenger “the information discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, repeatedly using in his correspondence a phrase of extremist nature.”
