Colleagues of journalist Gadjiev hold two pickets in Makhachkala

In Makhachkala, journalists Magomed Magomedov and Idris Yusupov held solo pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an arrested editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft).

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider the criminal case against him to be political persecution and regularly hold pickets in Makhachkala in support of him. Among them are Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the “Chernovik”, Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik”, and Idris Yusupov, a journalist of the publication “Novoye Delo” (New Clause). On March 27, the pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev were held by Magomed Magomedov and Idris Yusupov, and passers-by asked the activists about their protest actions.

On March 20, Magomed Magomedov explained that pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev remind Makhachkala residents of his case and the demands of the journalist’s colleagues to release him from custody.

Today, another picket has been held by Magomed Magomedov. The deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik” demanded to stop the criminal prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev and immediately release him from custody.

Friends and relatives of Abdulmumin Gadjiev also attended the place where the picket was held. During the protest action, 13 passers-by reacted to it. Two of them entered into a dialogue with Magomed Magomedov and expressed their support.

Then the picket was held by journalist Idris Yusupov: in his hands, he was holding a poster with ana inscription demanding freedom of journalism.

Let us remind you that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik”, Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the “Ansar” charitable foundation, and Kemal Tambiev have been in custody on the charge of financing terrorism since June 2019.

On March 23, at a hearing in Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s case, the court dismissed a motion filed by Kemal Tambiev, who asked to recognize his first testimony, obtained under duress, as inadmissible evidence.
