Social media users criticize idea of making Kadyrov the “father of the country”

The idea to supplement the position of the leader of Chechnya with the title of “father of the country” is inappropriate and causes irony with its excessive pathos, Telegram users point out. Social media users have called on not to single out Ramzan Kadyrov among the heads of the regions of the Russian Federation.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 2, Akhmed Dudaev, Chechen Minister of Press, announced that republic’s MPs proposed to supplement the title of the position held by the leader of Chechnya “with its semantic, but not literal, translation into the Chechen language, which sounded like ‘Mehk-Da’.” The Chechen Minister of Press explained the introduction of the new term by the concern for the preservation of the culture and identity of the Chechen people.

Adam Delimkhanov, the adviser to the leader of Chechnya and a Russian State Duma member, called the draft law “exceptionally correct and accurate.” “The concept of ‘Mehk-Da’ fully interprets the role of the Head of the Chechen Republic as a defender of religion, the people, their interests, culture, history, traditions, and customs! In addition, the concept reflects the high responsibility that the head of the republic bears,” wrote Adam Delimkhanov in his Telegram channel.

At the same time, Adam Delimkhanov gave his interpretation of the term. “The concept of ‘Mehk-Da’ is historically established among the Chechen people and, when translated from the Chechen language, means the highest official of the republic,” the adviser of Ramzan Kadyrov stated.

In their comments, some social media users reacted with irony to the initiative put forward by the Chechen MPs.

Let us remind you that according to among Caucasian experts, the Vainakh people did not use the title of “Mekhkan Da” earlier.

Historically, the term of “Mekhk Da” (among the Ingush people) or “Mekhkan Da” (among the Chechen people) was not used, confirmed Makka Albogachieva, Senior Researcher at the Department of Ethnography of the Caucasus at the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography.
