Kadyrov announces number of theologians ready to go to Ukraine

The first group of theologians completed a seven-day training at the Russian Special Forces University, and in total, about 300 imams and qadis from Chechnya plan to take such a course, Ramzan Kadyrov stated.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 12, the Muftiate of Chechnya announced that employees of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Chechnya and imams of the republic are undergoing military training at the Russian Special Forces University in Gudermes in order to be ready to be sent to the special military operation zone. Religious figures will unlikely take part in actual combat, analysts believe.

On November 15, 2022, the leader of Chechnya called on Chechen Sufis to create military units. In December, it became known that in exchange for the support from Ramzan Kadyrov, members of the Ingush brotherhood of the followers of Sheikh Batal-Khadji formed several detachments to participate in the special military operation in Ukraine.

The first group of theologians, which included Mufti of Chechnya Salakh Mezhiev, completed their training at the Russian University of Special Forces, announced Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. According to him, Salakh Mezhiev said that “the theologians were ready to go to the special military operation zone in Ukraine as soon as necessary in order to make their own contribution to the victory.”
