Colleagues of Dagestani journalist Gadjiev time their pickets to coincide with anniversary of his detention

Colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), recalled that he was arrested three years ago. They held pickets in Makhachkala and called for the release of the journalist.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s colleagues regularly hold solo pickets in support of him. At their pickets, the activists also demand to stop the persecution of journalists and release political prisoners. So, on June 6, two pickets were held by Magomed Magomedov and Magdy Kamalov, the deputy editor-in-chief and the founder of the “Chernovik”, respectively.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the “Ansar” charity foundation, and Kemal Tambiev were accused of financing terrorism. Abdulmumin Gadjiev insists he is not guilty, while his colleagues consider the persecution of the journalist to be pressure on him.

“Exactly three years ago, journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev was arrested on falsified evidence and false denunciations,” the “Chernovik” reports in its Telegram channel.

At the last court hearing, defence witness Saadu Akhmednabiev, a brother of Israil Akhmednabiev (known as Abu Umar Sasitlinsky), was questioned. On June 2, Saadu Akhmednabiev said that his brother openly called the ideas of the “Islamic State” (ISIL, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”) alien to Muslims. Saadu Akhmednabiev also said that Israil Akhmednabiev publicly criticized militants. According to the defence witness, Abdulmumin Gadjiev did not participate in the activities of Israil Akhmednabiev.
