Kalyapin treats his persecution with posters as consequence of Kadyrov's words

Posters accusing Igor Kalyapin, a rights defender, of supporting terrorists have appeared in the doorway and the door of the apartment of his elderly mother in Nizhny Novgorod. Igor has suggested that posters are a consequence of Ramzan Kadyrov's statement.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 24, in his comment on the abduction of Zarema Musaeva (Yangulbaeva), the mother of Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer of the "Committee against Torture" (CaT)*, Ramzan Kadyrov ranked Igor Kalyapin, the head of the CaT and a member of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, and Elena Milashina, a journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper as terrorists' accomplices.

Igor Kalyapin reported the incident in Nizhny Novgorod on January 30. "Yesterday, some freaks pasted the doorway and the door of the apartment where my mother lives with such posters ... As I understand it, the Kadyrov's business of fighting mothers lives and wins," Igor wrote on the Facebook by accompanying his message with photos of the posters reading, in particular, "Igor Kalyapin defends terrorists!" and "Shame on the Foreign Agent!"

Mr Kalyapin has linked the incident with his statements about Zarema Musaeva's abduction. "Definitely, it can be associated only with this story. I have no other conflicts. For sure, it has arrived from there [from Chechnya] because of my comments on this case, and in connection with my efforts to somehow influence the Chechen law enforcers and achieve Musaeva's release," the "Kavkaz.Realii"** quotes him as saying.

*The "Committee against Torture" (CaT) was put on the register of non-commercial organizations-foreign agents in 2015. In this regard, its leaders liquidated the organization. Currently, the CaT operates as an unregistered public association.

**The media outlet has been put by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) on the list of foreign media outlets acting as foreign agents.
