CaT's lawyers arrested after Pyatigorsk protest

Magomed Alamov, the head of the North-Caucasian branch of the Committee against Torture (CaT), and Konstantin Gusev, a Committee's lawyer, were arrested for ten days after they observed an action in support of Alexei Navalny, held on January 31 in Pyatigorsk.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Alamov and Gusev were detained on January 31 in Pyatigorsk after they came to an action in support of Alexei Navalny aiming to monitor the situation, the detainees themselves have explained.

On January 31, actions of Navalny's supporters were held in many regions of Russia, including cities of the country's south: Astrakhan, Volgograd, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi and Stavropol. According to eyewitnesses, at the venues of unsanctioned actions, not only activists were detained, but also journalists and passers-by.

"In Pyatigorsk, two CaT's lawyers, Konstantin Gusev and Magomed Alamov, were arrested for 10 days after the January 31 action," the "Protest Apology" Telegram channel has reported.

"Magomed Alamov and (Konstantin Gusev), lawyers of the North-Caucasian branch of the CaT, were arrested for 10 days for observing a peaceful protest action on (January) 31; they were taken to another city – Mineralnye Vody for serving their terms. Both have minor children; and both were just observers," Maria Chaschilova's message asserts.
