Refugees in Nagorno-Karabakh ask to provide them with housing

Nagorno-Karabakh authorities must first of all provide housing to those who lost their homes in the autumn hostilities of 2020, refugees believe. The local Ministry of Social Security has informed that out of 34,000 residents who had lost their homes, temporary housing has been found for about 8000.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that by January 27, 2021, peacemakers had escorted 51,216 refugees from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh. By November 30, 2020, about 30,000 residents of Karabakh had returned without peacemakers' support.

All the refugees who had lost their jobs due to the war will continue receiving their salaries for six months, the press service of the above Nagorno-Karabakh's Ministry has informed.

Araik Arutyunyan, President of Nagorno-Karabakh, has stated that the programme to provide the residents of the unrecognized republic with housing will be realized within three years.

"Housing remains a problem. We find it wrong to compact our relatives ... We hope that the state will solve the refugees' housing problem in a short time," said Irina Osipyan from the village of Karin Tak of the Shushi District.

Before the autumn war, Ani Avanesyan's family had lived in Shushi, and now they live in a rented apartment in Stepanakert, which is partially paid by the authorities. According to her story, in Shushi, they had left "a recently bought apartment and all property, because they left it during bombings and could take only documents and children's clothes."
