Over 400 Azerbaijanis await departure home in camps near Kullar

The camp organized near the village of Kullar still accommodates 335 residents of Azerbaijan; 99 other people live in a spontaneous camp. The next dispatch of Azerbaijanis home did not take place; while it became cold to spend nights in tents that are unfit with heating means, the administration of the Derbent District has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a temporary accommodation centre (TAC) in the form of a tent camp was opened near the Dagestani village of Kullar for the citizens of Azerbaijan, who could not get home after the border was closed due to coronavirus. Every week on Tuesdays, camp residents and newly coming Azerbaijanis were sent home in groups. Then, because of the military actions in Karabakh, the dispatch was suspended since September 29. With the onset of cold weather, the conditions in the camp became more severe. The tents are not heated; and people have to sleep in clothes.

A source from the administration told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the recent pre-planned dispatch of Azerbaijani citizens from Kullar was cancelled by the Azerbaijani party.

There are still 335 people remaining in the tent camp organized by the Russia's Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) near the village of Kullar; 99 other people stay in the spontaneous camp, said the source. The tents are not equipped with heating appliances, he has added.

According to the source, the issue of moving people from the tent camp to heated premises remains open. The exact dates of the resumption of Azerbaijanis' weekly dispatches to their homeland are also unknown; and they are not planned in the near future.
