Sagiev's wife calls on Azerbaijani authorities to save his life

Emin Sagiev, an Azerbaijani political prisoner, continues his hunger strike for 23 days and does not intend to stop, his wife said, urging the authorities to compromise and at least transfer him to house arrest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Emin Sagiev, a relative of the journalist Tyurkel Azertyurk, went on a hunger strike on August 18 after the Azerbaijani Supreme Court (SC) refused to satisfy the appeal complaint against his verdict. On September 7, his wife reported that Sagiev's illnesses had worsened. Doctors treated his long hunger strike as dangerous for his life.

Ms Sagieva believes that her husband was convicted unreasonably. "Emin is far from politics. He is persecuted because of the journalistic work of my sister's husband, Tyurkel Azertyurk, who lives abroad. But Emin cannot respond for another person's actions," the wife said.

Bakhruz Bairamov, an advocate, believes that Sagiev may be included into the list of those who will be covered by the pardoning scheduled for the end of this year.

In the report of the Union "For the Freedom of Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan" Sagiev was included into the group of hostages, who are persecuted because of political activities of their relatives.

Let us remind you that in October 2018, Emin Sagiev was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of drug dealing.
