Kadyrov creates agency to help "good" Chechens in Europe

A new national agency is ready to provide help to immigrants from Chechnya living abroad, but they must "watch their own language," Ramzan Kadyrov has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July, bloggers from the Chechen Diaspora, who had criticized the Kadyrov's regime, complained about the received threats. They did it after the murder in Austria of Mamikhan Umarov, a native of Chechnya, who insulted the head of Chechnya and his parents.

The above agency will employ former Kadyrov's opponents, he claimed on air of the "Grozny" TV Channel. He also made it clear that the point is not only about help, but also about the control over the statements by Chechen natives.

"This is about a whole range of issues, including the study by the Chechen children living in Europe of their mother tongue, traditions and culture, so that they do not lose touch with their homeland," the Chechen Ministry for Information and Press has added.

The Chechen authorities are striving to expand their influence on immigrants from the republic living abroad, said Umar, a Chechen resident. "Kadyrov divides his compatriots into two categories – 'good' and 'bad' ones. He promises help to the former, and 'they'll work with the latter. It seems to me that this is a clear threat to those dissatisfied," Umar said.

Another resident of Chechnya, Salavdi, also believes that the decision to create the agency was not dictated by concern for compatriots abroad.
