Arrest of new suspects in Magas rally case appealed against

The arrests of Amirkhan Bekov, Isropil Nalgiev and Mukharbek Mamatov, participants of the rally in Magas have been appealed against. Investigators failed to prove their guilt, their advocates assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 4, four participants of the last March rally in Magas were detained: Isropil Nalgiev, Amirkhan Bekov, Ruslan Barkhanoev and Mukharbek Mamatov. Later, it became known about another detainee – Maksharip Batygov. They are suspected of using violence against a power official.

"No videos, photographs, or witnesses' and victims' testimonies were presented," said Khusen Guliev, an advocate.

Let us remind you that on March 26, 2019, opponents of the Chechen-Ingush border agreement refused to disperse after the rally in Magas. When law enforcers tried to disperse them, there were clashes. Since last April, they began mass arrests of activists; at least 29 of them became defendants in criminal cases. Ordinary protesters are accused of attacking law enforcers, while organizers are charged with creating an extremist community.
