Chechen native sentenced for involvement in IS complains of torture

On December 10, the Southern Military Court sentenced Yakub Ibragimov, a native of Chechnya, to 19 years of imprisonment in a penal colony. According to public prosecutors, the man was trained at a special centre of the "Islamic State" (ISIL, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"). Yakub Ibragimov declared self-incrimination after torture and threats.

According to investigators, in the period from July to August 2014, Yakub Ibragimov stayed at the IS training centre, where he learned how to handle weapons, explosive devices and substances.

At the court hearing held on September 12, Yakub Ibragimov claimed torture and self-incrimination.

"They forced me to undress till my underpants and began to beat me with my hands and feet on my kidneys ... I've got bleeding from my ear, and I fell down three times," Yakub Ibragimov said.

According to the defendant, in August 2018, after the criminal case was instituted against him for his training at the IS camp, law enforcers tied him to a bed, beat him, and did not allow him praying and going to a toilet.

Yakub Ibragimov also claimed that the law enforcers promised to plant drugs to his mother, who visited him in the penal colony if he did not sign a confession.
