South Ossetia opposes construction of Georgian border checkpoint

Border guards have held a raid of armoured vehicles near the village of Tsnelis, where Georgian militaries are erecting a checkpoint, the South-Ossetia Committee for State Security (known as the KGB) has reported. Georgia has violated the border and committed an act of aggression, the South-Ossetian Parliament has announced.

The KGB has reported that the aim of the border raid was to "ensure the safety of the local population."

Since August 24, the KGB has almost daily reported in the Facebook about the "provocations" of the Georgian side at the border. In the vicinity of the village of Tsnelis, Georgian law enforcers cut down a forest and built a road; through violating the border, they arranged checkpoint and a set up the Georgian flag, says the website of the South-Ossetian Parliament.

Georgian policemen should immediately abandon the vicinity of Tsnelis, Zaza Driaev, the head of the committee on foreign policy and inter-parliamentary relations of the South-Ossetia Parliament, has declared.

What happens in the vicinity of Tsnelis is a Georgia's undisguised act of aggression, said Amiran Dyakonov, the head of another South-Ossetian parliamentary committee – on national policies, culture, religion and media.

Let us remind you that Georgian authorities are protesting against the installation of border fences by the South-Ossetian side. Human rights defenders treat the bordering as the main reason for anti-Russian protests in Georgia.
