In Derbent, relatives of arrested men suspend protests

An investigator questioned a mother and an aunt of Gasan Kurbanov, who was arrested in Derbent, in connection with his complaint of torture and voiced the term of the check. A mother of Islam Barzukaev, the second detainee, is ready to hold pickets in Moscow.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 24, mothers of detained Islam Barzukaev and Gasan Kurbanov declared a hunger strike in front of the police building in Derbent with the demand to set free their sons. On July 4, the health state of the women deteriorated sharply, but they refused hospitalization.

Islam Barzukaev, Gasan Kurbanov, and Mizarali Mizaraliev were suspected of illicit trafficking in explosives and ammunition. The relatives of the detainees insist that they are not guilty.

According to the mother and the aunt of Gasan Kurbanov, they told the investigator about all the circumstances of the case known to them. The mother of Islam Barzukaev was also questioned.

The detainees' mothers do not longer hold their hunger strike, since their health states deteriorated after a long refusal of food and they want to recover.

Gasan Kurbanov and Islam Barzukaev came to the attention of the law enforcement bodies several years before their detentions. Relatives and friends associate the prosecution of the detained men with the law enforcers' provocations.
