Rights defender: Chechen extradited from Poland kidnapped

Azamat Baiduev, who was extradited by the Polish authorities to Russia, was kidnapped from his house in the village of Shalazhi in the Urus-Martan District a day after his arrival in Chechnya. That was reported by Akhmed Gisaev, the leader of the Human Rights Analysis Centre.

Azamat Baiduev was deported from Poland to Russia on August 31. According to Akhmed Gisaev, on his way home, the 34-year-old man got no claims from the authorities.

On September 1, a large group of armed people came to the house of an Azamat Baiduev's uncle. Without explanation of the reasons, the armed men took Azamat Baiduev away with them to some unknown destination, Akhmed Gisaev wrote on his Facebook page.

In 2007, Azamat Baiduev was granted asylum in Poland, and he soon moved to Belgium at the request of his mother, who did not consider Poland as a country sufficiently secure for him. In the summer of 2017, the Belgian security officials detained Azamat Baiduev with reference to the information from France about his "possible involvement in the preparation of terror acts." Although those suspicions were not confirmed, the man was deported to Poland.

The "Kavkaz.Realii" reports that before moving to Europe, Azamat Baiduev, who took care of six children, was persecuted and tortured in Russia.

  • Analysts assess Dagestani head’s statement on appeals of SMO fighters

The appeals of the participants of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine from Dagestan to republic’s authorities are caused by many local problems and remain one of the ways to attract officials’ attention.
