FSB confirms Yandiev's extradition to Russia

Aslan Yandiev, a native of Prigorodny District of North Ossetia, suspected of involvement in a series of resonant terror acts, has been extradited to Moscow from Slovakia, the Russian Federal Security Bureau (FSB) reported on July 18.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier Yandiev's extradition was announced by the "Vaifond" Chechen Association.

Yandiev was brought to Russia on July 17 by a Bratislava-Moscow flight. According to the FSB, "he is involved in organizing and committing in 2006 a series of resonant terror acts with the use of high-power improvised explosive devices (IEDs) of in Vladikavkaz, which entailed civilian casualties," the FSB's website reports.

Alexei Obolenets, a Yandiev's advocate, has stated today that his client was extradited against the recommendation of the Human Rights Committee.

According to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", Yandiyev's mother, Asya Yandieva, denies all the charges brought against her son. According to her version, in 2006, Russian law enforcement bodies detained several residents of the village of Kartsa in North Ossetia. During questioning, torture was applied to them, she asserts.

"As a result, under physical pressure, they were forced to slander themselves and a few other their acquaintances, including Aslan Yandiev," the "Russian-Language Media Network" quotes the HRC "Memorial".

Human rights defenders assert that if Yandiev is in Russia, he may be tortured and deprived of his liberty "on falsified charges."
