Kadyrov responds to report on torture in Chechnya and calls not to pay to PACE

According to Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the Chechen Republic, the report on persecution of gays in Chechnya prepared by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is based on false stories about human rights violations and "media pseudo events" on the topic.

On June 27, the PACE adopted a resolution calling on Russia to investigate the persecution of LGBTI people (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people) in Chechnya or allow an investigation to be conducted by an international human rights organization.

Piet De Bruyn, a PACE member from Belgium, noted that 114 LGBTI people had left Chechnya since the start of the persecution campaign.

In response, Ramzan Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram channel that no members of the PACE and the Council of Europe (CE) addressed the Chechen authorities on the issue or visited the republic to check the information they had voiced.

The leader of Chechnya believes that Russia should not pay any fee for membership in the PACE because of "the failure of the European officials to conduct objective investigations into human rights violations."
