Vostok admitted to have conducted clean-up

Chechnya's authorities have officially admitted that the clean-up in Borozdinovskaia was carried out by the Vostok ("East") battalion. President Alu Alkhanov of Chechnya said the battalion was involved in the special operation. The Chechen president added the guilt of all those who had taken part in it would be assessed.

The operation in Borozdinovskaia was not authorised by the Vostok command, Ruslan Yamadayev, a Russian Duma member from the Chechen Republic, said in a broadcast of Radio Echo of Moscow.

The MP added Vostok servicemen had nothing to do with the disappearance of Borozdinovskaia residents. Some other people entered the village when they had left, he said.
