Authorities persecute youth NGO leader

Prosecutors of North Osetia's Digoriya district have launched criminal investigation against Marina Zoloyeva, the leader of the North Osetian youth organization Young Osetia. The case is opened under article 12 of the Criminal Code "Slandering".

Marina Zoloyeva criticized the Digoriya District Police Department in the Vesti Digorii district newspaper. "The practice of not registering crimes has been introduced to create the appearance of well-being in the district. For instance, cattle thefts have become general, and it is disastrous for villagers," she wrote.

In her article, Ms Zoloyeva also touches on the work of police keeping public order in the places of gathering of people. "Police do not perform their direct duties, they collect money," says the youth leader.
