Arrested village administration head released

Shakhid Chamayev, head of the village administration of Serzhen-Yurt, Chechnya's Shali district, detained by officers of the Chechen president's security service in the town of Shali on 3 July, has been released, a source at a Chechen human right organization told the Caucasian Knot correspondent.

"Shakhid Chamayev was detained because he allegedly provided help to the rebels. Serzhen-Yurt residents have held several large-scale protest actions in front of the buildings of the district administration in Shali and the Government House in Grozny (approximately 1000 people took part in the meetings in the capital of Chechnya) demanding that he should be released," the man said.
