ICRF to investigate case of attack on Vyacheslav Prudnikov

At a request of the Prosecutor's Office, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has been engaged in the case of an armed attack, reported Vyacheslav Prudnikov, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent in the Rostov Region.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the journalist was attacked on November 21. An unidentified man shot several times at Vyacheslav Prudnikov saying: "I'm fed up with you writing about the authorities." Doctors performed surgery to get a bullet stuck in the rib area. However, the case was instituted under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Russia (deliberate infliction of slight damage to health).

The case has been taken by the Krasnosulinsky Interdistrict Investigating Division of the ICRF's Department for the Rostov Region. On December 30, 2017, the journalist was questioned.

"(Investigators) reported that the ICRF took the case from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) at a request of the Prosecutor's Office. They asked questions about how everything occurred and tried to compose an image of the shooter," Vyacheslav Prudnikov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on December 31, 2017.

An attack on Vyacheslav Prudnikov was condemned by OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir. He has emphasized that "the attack could result in the murder of the journalist" and urged "to carry out a prompt and effective investigation."
