Chechen teacher Mansur Zhabrailov suspected of insulting believers' feelings

The criminal case against Mansur Zhabrailov, a former Chechen teacher, is being investigated under the article on insulting believers' feelings.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 7, Akhmed Dudaev, the Chechen Minister of National Policy, reported that law enforcers had detained Zhabrailov for his offensive statements about Christians posted in social networks; and he was also fired. Zhabrailov posted videos in his social media pages in which he used offensive expressions and assessments of Christians. Zhabrailov later admitted that he was wrong and apologized to all Orthodox Christians. Zhabrailov's position on Christians is not typical for adherents of Islam, religious scholars have emphasized.

A criminal case against the 35-year-old Zhabrailov was opened under the article on insulting believers' feelings (provides for up to a year of imprisonment, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), the Chechen Branch of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has reported. "According to investigators, from December 2021 to September 2024, the suspect posted information on the Internet that violated citizens' rights to the freedom of conscience and religion and insulted believers' feelings," the Telegram channel of the above Branch has stated.

Investigators have stressed that forensic examinations have been ordered, including a linguistic one.

Let us recall that Nikita Zhuravel, a Volgograd resident, was convicted in Chechnya under the article on insulting believers' feelings for his burning down the Koran.
