Ingushetia enhances security measures after terror act in Saint Petersburg

Yunus-Bek Evkurov has instructed the law enforcement bodies to enhance security measures in Ingushetia during the winter holidays in connection with an explosion in a Saint Petersburg supermarket.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 27, in Saint Petersburg, in the "Perekryostok" (Crossroads) supermarket, an explosion occurred near the storage room. As a result, about 13 people were injured. The Russian President has called the incident a terror act and reminded of the recent detention of natives of Dagestan and Ingushetia in the case of preparation of terror acts in Saint Petersburg.

In the case on plotting of terror acts in December, seven persons were detained, including Shamil Omargadjiev, a native of Dagestan, and Alishan Esmurziev, a native of Ingushetia. Investigators suggest the suspects planned to commit explosions in crowded places. One of the detainees confessed he intended to blow up the Kazan Cathedral.

"The tragedy in Saint Petersburg shows that we need to work more attentively in places of mass accumulation of people," Yunus-Bek Evkurov noted.

The Ingush leader has instructed the law enforcement bodies to check video surveillance systems in such places, the website "Republic of Ingushetia" says.
