Campaign "Lachin without Mines" continues in Arar community
The humanitarian organizations "HALO Trust" and "ONEArmenia" continue fundraising for demining the field near Arar village in the Kashatag District of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).
This February, the "ONEArmenia" began raising money for demining the site in the vicinity of Lachin village in the Shaumyan District of the NKR. The fundraising campaign is held in the USA and other countries.
The "HALO Trust" is a British and American charitable NGO dealing with neutralizing landmines and unexploded ordnance that can be dangerous for people.
"The last known minefield near the village of Mirushen was cleared this year, in late September, following successful fundraising in 2016... Now, we are raising funds for cleaning the minefield near Arar, also in the vicinity of Lachin," Amasia Zargaryan, a "HALO Trust" employee, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to his story, they plan to complete the demining process in the NKR in 2020.
Mr Zargaryan has noted that since 1995, the NKR has registered 288 cases of blasts of mines and unexploded ordnances involving civilians, of whom 78 persons perished and other 371 were wounded.
Nazik Melkumyan, the head of the Arar community in the Kashatag District has noted that "since 1997, there have been a lot of cases when livestock was killed by mines in the fields; and three persons, including a child, were killed by explosions thereof."
