Turkey starts new wave of detentions of Northern-Caucasian natives
Detentions of natives from the republics of Northern Caucasus were held in Istanbul and a number of other cities of Turkey. It is known at least about 22 detainees, but they are under no threat of extradition to Russia, Ali Viskhadjiev, the head of the organization "Kavkazder", has stated. Some of those who were detained in October remain in Turkish jails. Analyst Kharun Sidorov suggests that Ankara's policy toward migrants will be toughened.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October, Diaspora members stated mass detentions in Turkey of people from Northern Caucasus. There were at least 21 detainees, mostly women and children.
"Now, they've detained a native of Chechnya, whose residence permit has expired. He is disabled and had the tumour removal surgery," Mr Viskhadjiev said.
Social networks report about a hunger strike of inmates of the deportation prison located in Izmir.
"Children get sick, but wards do not care and prescribe no medicines," says the letter of detainees from Northern Caucasus and Central Asia.
According to Viskhadjiev, violations of prisoners' rights in Turkish jails are not uncommon.
Besides, as reported by Khasan Oktai, a Turkish historian and the director of the "Kafkassam" Centre for Strategic Studies, there were killings of emigrants, oppositional to the authorities of Russia and the republics of Northern Caucasus.
