Convicted high-ranking law enforcer Mamedov found dead in Baku
Colonel-Lieutenant Gadji Mamedov from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), who had been sentenced to life imprisonment, was found dead in a medical unit of the Penitentiary Service. According to preliminary data, he committed suicide.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 19, 2007, a Baku court sentenced Gadji Mamedov, the former employee of the Criminal Investigation Department of the MIA, to life imprisonment on charges of contract killings and kidnappings with the aim to get ransom.
Gadji Mamedov committed suicide in a specialized medical unit of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice, located in the settlement of Bina, the “Trend” has reported today.
According to the Khazar District Prosecutor's Office of Baku, a criminal case has been opened under Article 125 of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code (incitement to suicide); law enforcers now clear out the circumstances and causes of the incident, the APA reports.
Let us remind you that, according to the court, Mamedov's grouping had acted for 10 years. Its members were found guilty of killing 11 persons and for about 30 kidnappings; the total amount of ransoms received by bandits made several million euros.
