Dagestani resident who cut his belly returns home from SIZO
The Makhachkala court has transferred Akim Kuliev, who has complained about torture after his arrest under the case of setting the district administration on fire, under house arrest. Two other figurants in the case remain at the SIZO (pre-trial prison).
The building of the district administration burnt down at night on September 14. On November 25, it was reported that Kuliev was tortured. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) objected stating that he had self-mutilated.
Today, the Kirov District Court of Makhachkala has changed Kuliev's freedom restriction measure for house arrest for two months, Arsen Kuliev, Akim's father, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to his story, his son cur his stomach open, "not wishing to tolerate more torture," but now Akim is on the mend.
"He's already at home... but now he has a feeling of fear... He's never felt anything like that before; he's a strong guy, he's in for ushu-sanda wrestling since six years; he won Dagestani championships and took prizes at all-Russian championships," the father said.
A criminal case has also been opened against Kuliev on illegal trafficking in arms, ammunition and drugs. His relatives believe that drugs and firearms had been planted on him.
Two other defendants, Suleiman Guseinov and Efendi Alimov, are still in custody, the father has added.
