Scientists express no delight about prospects of gold mining in mountains of Dagestan

Extraction of gold near the Dagestani village of Kurush is complicated by the fact that the gold deposit is located high in the mountains, believes geologist Isa Gazaliev. In case if a mine is built, it will help to employ hundreds of local residents, reported the Union of Gold Producers of Russia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 9, it became known that the deposits of gold-bearing ores were discovered near the village of Kurush in the Dokuzparin District of Dagestan not far from the border with Azerbaijan. Scientists have estimated gold reserves of at least 100 tons.

A reader of the "Caucasian Knot", who presented himself as M. Kurbanov, Honoured Geologist of Russia, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, noted that so far only the prospects of discovering the deposit were known.

According to his version, the method of gold extraction depends on the state of the metal in the gold-bearing ore. The scientist has also added that while there is no project to develop the deposit, it is too early to discuss whether the ore extraction activities will harm the environment.

In the course of the deposit development, workplaces for local specialists can be created, noted Marina Tseplyaeva, Executive Director for the Union of Gold Producers of Russia.
