Azerbaijani president pardons 100

President Ilkham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has today signed into law another act pardoning 100 people, political prisoners among them.

The situation with political prisoners in Azerbaijan will be discussed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on 22 June. Experts think the act links with this discussion. Over his presidency (since October 2003), Ilkham Aliyev has signed seven acts pardoning about 1,200 people.
