Fire victims of Grozny marketplace stop trading due to compensation denial

Builders have restored the pavilion that got burnt down in September, an official of the "Berkat" marketplace in Grozny has stated. However, the tenants of pavilion received no compensations for their suffered losses; therefore, some of them could not resume their business.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the entrepreneurs, who suffered losses in the fire, had already complained about non-payment of due compensations.

The burnt down pavilion has been completely restored, the administration of the "Berkat" reports.

The traders, who had suffered losses during the fire, received no compensations from local authorities, one of the women-traders said.

Another trader named Vakha has added that some of his colleagues were forced to stop their work at the marketplace, since they cannot start their businesses anew.

"Fires occurred here before; and nobody ever helped people, although we all regularly pay rental fees and taxes," he said.

Entrepreneurs assert that conducting business in Chechnya without authorities' support "is not just hard, but practically impossible."
