Eleven TB patients forcibly hospitalized in Chechnya

The Chechen Ministry of Public Health has enforced, through the court, a compulsory treatment of 11 patients with an open form of tuberculosis (TB), who had been evading hospitalization, at the dispensary.

Lawsuits were filed against these patients, an employee of the Chechen Prosecutor's Office told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Such a measure is provided for by point 2 of Article 10 of the Federal Law" On the Prevention of Spread of Tuberculosis in the Russian Federation", he has explained.

According to his story, as of November 10, the courts had ruled to forcibly hospitalize 11 patients; they are already at the republic's TB dispensary.

Patients with an open form of TB should be immediately isolated in hospitals, as they pose a heightened danger to others, said one of the employees of the TB dispensary in Grozny. "Such a patient is able to infect up to 20 people a year, who do not directly contact him, that is, colleagues at work or passengers in public transport," she told the "Caucasian Knot".
