Regional ethnographers talk on Gunib popularization through art project

The project "Tsar Valley, Art-Gunib", the winner of Vladimir Potanin Foundation's Contest "The Changing Museum in the Changing World", is aimed at preserving the natural beauty of the village and popularizing its historical and cultural heritage, said Naida Dibirova, a deputy director of the Makhachkala History Museum. The goal is to make Gunib a tourist brand, said Patimat Aliskandieva, the director of the local museum.

The grant programme "The Changing Museum in the Changing World" exists since 2003. Its goals are to increase the prestige of the museum business in Russia; the budget of the programme is 25 million roubles, says its website.

Naida Dibirova has noted that this is the first Dagestani project-contest winner.

According to her story, the museum works towards broader communication with the society.

"We want to invite painters to Gunib so that they could plunge into the history of this place. Our main work is with the local context: history, culture, people, dances and music. We also plan a series of seminars on history, arts and culture studies," she said.

The project will last until September 2018. Painters have already visited Gunib; they will work on mini-museums located in guest houses. Four projects are ready, Ms Aliskandieva has added.
