Teacher wins trial

The Sumgait City Court (Azerbaijan) has today ruled in favour of Shakhla Aliyev in her suit against the administration of the Istedad lyceum in Sumgait and restored her as a biology teacher.

Shakhla was fired on 30 March after she had refused to take off her burqa in class. However, the court has today restored her at work and bound the administration of the lyceum to pay her for the period after her dismissal. This is the first such court decision in Azerbaijan.
