Woman suspected of recruiting militants detained on Georgian border

The foreign woman detained at the Verkhny Lars border checkpoint had urged people to join militants and helped them to leave for Syria, the North-Ossetian Frontier Authority reports.

"The detainee is suspected of deliberate inducing young people to join terrorists... The victims of the ‘recruiter in hijab’ were citizens of the Russian Federation," said the Authority, adding that prior to coming to Russia, the woman "had already had some experience of escorting recruits of illegal armed formations (IAFs) from Turkey to Syria.

According to special services, her first husband was killed in the warfare zone in the Middle East; after that, she began recruiting young people into militants.

"The foreign woman has perfectly mastered the skills of Internet communication and psychological manipulation. Under the pretext of establishing marital relations, she involved young people in extremist ideas," the “Interfax” quotes its source in the Russian FSB (Federal Security Bureau).
