Eyewitness reports fight of law enforcers in Makhachkala

In the capital of Dagestan, policemen opened fire as a result of a conflict with staff members of the Centre for Combating Extremism (CCE). This was reported on October 8 by an eyewitness of the incident.

According to the source, the incident occurred in a yard of a house in Shamil Avenue. Inspectors of the patrol-and-post service (known as PPS) for the Soviet ROVD (District Interior Division) stopped a group of armed people who appeared to be staff members of the Centre for Combating Extremism under the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

"The people in civilian clothes ... told the policemen that they were also MIA's staff members. However, they did not produce any IDs. A verbal quarrel broke out, which turned into a fight," the eyewitness said.

According to the source's version, during the conflict, the ROVD inspectors opened fire in the air from submachine guns. "They fired at least two magazines and frightened all tenants of the house," noted the source as quoted by the "Chernovik" (Draft) on October 8.

Till present, no comments are available from the Dagestani MIA's officials concerning the above information on the incident.
