In Chechnya, about 2000 hectares of land cleared during six months
In the period from April to October, combat engineers destroyed about 7000 explosive devices and ammunition in five districts of Chechnya.
Starting from April 1, combat engineers are engaged in clearing forests in the Achkhoi-Martan, Urus-Martan, Grozny, Kurchaloi and Shatoi Districts of the Chechen Republic, as well as in the vicinity of Grozny, the military commander's office of Chechnya reported.
"The mine clearance plan for the current year has been fulfilled by more than 86%," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by an official from the military commander's office.
After mine clearing, the cleaned lands are returned to farming and are used as arable land and pastures, the Chechen Ministry of Agriculture reports.
The activities of mine clearance are to be completed by late November.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 17, three combat engineers were blown up in the course of mine clearance in the Shatoi District of Chechnya. Two of them were killed, and the third combat engineer was seriously injured. According to the military commander's office, after the incident the security measures were enhanced.
