Volgograd HRC member arrested for two months
Yuri Golder, the head of the Volgograd Consumer Rights Protection Association and a member of the Volgograd City Human Rights Council (HRC), suspected of taking a bribe from a businessman, has been arrested until September 26.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 26 Yuri Golder and a lawyer from the above Association were detained on suspicion of committing a commercial bribery. Mr Golder’s colleagues assert that his prosecution has to do with his human rights activities.
His advocate Evgenia Livanova has sent a complaint to the Public Prosecutor of the Volgograd Region, noting that Yuri Golder is a Category II invalid, while the search of his residence was not sanctioned by the court.
A sitting of the Volgograd HRC is scheduled for August 4; it will discuss how to protect Yuri Golder, Temur Kobaliya, the head of the HRC, has stated, adding that Sergo Narsiya, another HRC member, has left Volgograd, fearing of being prosecuted.
