More freedom for opposition in Azerbaijan
The opposition will be allowed to hold public meetings to run their election campaign after the official start of a parliamentary election in Azerbaijan. This is what Ali Gasanov, chief of the socio-political department with the executive staff for the president of Azerbaijan, told Trend agency. He said opposition parties had been allowed to hold all types of meetings and demonstrations in the past ten years, but radical opposition activities had been banned because of the great damage caused to the capital city by uncontrolled people whom the radical opposition had brought to the streets on 15-16 October 2003. Mr Gasanov added the opposition should not abuse the conditions it was provided with.
