Advocates boycott court hearing in case against "Sasna Tsrer"

In Yerevan, the beginning of the court hearing in the case against members of the unit "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun) was postponed. The defendants' advocates refused to enter the courtroom in protest against the inspection of their belongings by court marshals.

On July 17-July 31, inYerevan, the armed unit "Sasna Tsrer" kept the building of the police patrol-and-post service regiment.

The today's court hearing was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. local time.

In fact, the court hearing started only at 1:50 p.m. local time and was immediately postponed. The judge announced a break for an hour, since the defendants' advocates refused to enter the courtroom. Thus, they protested against the inspection of their belongings by court marshals.

It should be noted that the court marshals did not let the advocates to enter the courtroom without the inspection of their briefcases' contents. The advocates did not let the court marshals to inspect their briefcases and stated that they contained materials concerning their clients and that according to the law, those materials are untouchable.

"This is not an inspection, but a search of advocates, and court marshals are not authorized to that," advocate Tigran Airapetyan commented on the situation to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The advocate has also noted that the court marshals did not inspect the prosecutors' belongings. That is, according to the defender, there is discrimination of one of the parties to the trial.
