Oil theft combated in Chechnya

Law enforcement and security agencies launched a large-scale operation to combat illegal oil production and transportation in Chechnya on 27 March. The operation involves officers of the "security service" for the Chechen president. Chechnya's law enforcement agencies reported detaining 15 large trucks designed to transport oil products and seizing more than 50 tonnes of petrol and diesel oil produced in small illegal facilities on the very first day of the operation.

It should be noted though there were numerous reports earlier that units of the "security service" commanded by Chechnya's First Deputy Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov are also involved in illegal oil trade.
