Georgian LGBT-activists hold support action of North-Caucasian gays

On April 18, activists of the Georgian LGBT-community held an action in front of the former Russian Embassy in Tbilisi. They demanded from the Russian authorities to stop persecuting homosexuals in Northern Caucasus.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the “Novaya Gazeta” wrote about mass detentions and murders in Chechnya of men suspected of non-traditional sexual orientation, as well as about the "secret prison" for gays in the village of Argun. The prison was also reported by Radio Liberty.

The publication of the “Novaya Gazeta” has triggered the protest action in Tbilisi, organized by the Georgian LGBT-community named “Femida” and attended by about 20 people.

According to Beka Gabadadze, a “Femida” activist, members of the community have appealed to the Georgian authorities with a request to grant asylum to North-Caucasian gays, should they apply for it.

According to Koba Bitsadze, another activist, members of the LGBT-community are persecuted not only in Chechnya, but also in other republics of Northern Caucasus.
