Lakoba to be Bagapsh's rival in presidential election

The Abkhazian Central Election Commission (CEC) has registered the initiative group to nominate Yakub Lakoba as a presidential candidate, Abkhazian CEC Chairman Batal Tabagua told the Caucasian Knot correspondent.


The leader of the Abkhazian People's Party, Yakub Lakoba, won 506 votes in the October 3 election. In his interview with the Caucasian Knot correspondent, Mr Lakoba said he had not decided on the nomination for vice president yet.


Earlier, the Abkhazian CEC registered the initiative group to nominate Sergey Bagapsh as a presidential candidate, together with whom his former opponent Raul Khadzhimba is nominated as a candidate for the post of vice president.

The new presidential election will be held in Abkhazia on January 12.
