Decision to close case against Sapiyat Magomedova cancelled

Prior to considering the lawsuit lodged by the Dagestani lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova with a demand to compensate the harm caused to her by illegal criminal prosecution, the prosecutor's office notified the court that the decision to stop Magomedova's case was cancelled.

On June 17, 2010, Sapiyt Magomedova was beaten by Khasavyurt policemen. The latter claimed that Magomedova herself attacked them. Cases were initiated against both parties, but then merged and closed. In December 2014, at the request of the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan, the investigation was reopened and then closed again.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 26 Sapiyat Magomedova said that she had lodged a lawsuit to the Khasavyurt City Court with a demand to compensate her property damage and moral harm in the amount of 3.5 million roubles for illegal criminal prosecution, and also demanded to oblige the prosecutor to officially apologize to her on behalf of the state.

On March 10, the Khasavyurt City Court was to hold the first session on Magomedova's lawsuit, but it failed because of non-appearance of respondents, a court official told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, before the session the court received a fax message from the prosecutor's office, stating the cancellation of the unjustified decision to stop prosecuting Sapiyat Magomedova.

The source said that because of respondents’ failure to appear, the session was rescheduled for March 13.
