IHF expert abducted in Chechnya

Magomed Magomadov, an expert of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights (IHF) in the North Caucasus, has been abducted in the capital of Chechnya, Grozny, reported a Caucasian Knot correspondent. The abduction occurred in the Staropromislovsky district of Grozny on January 20. Gunmen in camouflage uniforms stopped the Zhiguli car driven by Magomadov and took him away in an unknown direction under the treat of physical violence.

Magomed Magomadov was an IHF expert and at the same time worked in the Chechen National Rescue Committee as a lawyer. Having legal education, Magomadov has been working in the prosecution system for all his life. In the time of Aslan Maskhadov, Magomadov headed a group of investigators in the Chechen prosecutor's office engaged in investigations of cases connected with kidnappings.
