Advocate Elena Denisenko taken off the bus at Gerzel checkpoint

At the Dagestani-Chechnya border, power agents stopped the advocate Elena Denisenko, who was on her way to the trial of Abdusalam Ramazanov, from continuing her travel, and took away her passport for examination.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Elena Denisenko, a lawyer of the Bar Association of the Krasnodar Territory, was repeatedly stopped at border checkpoints, because she is on the so-called "prophylactic registry" of law enforcers.

Today, Elena Denisenko has taken a Makhachkala-Krasnodar regular bus; then, she told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she had been again detained at the Chechen-Dagestani border – again at the Gerzel checkpoint.

According to Elena Denisenko, policemen kept her in the territory of the checkpoint for about 40 minutes. All that time, the bus passengers had to wait for her.

Ms Denisenko has treated the power agents' actions as "obstruction to execution of lawyer's professional activities." She has filed a complaint to the public prosecutor on duty of the Republic of Dagestan.

Elena Denisenko is known, among other things, for her activities of defending prisoners' rights; in this context, she has been repeatedly put under pressure by law enforcers.
