Azerbaijan human rights activists propose Aland Model

Helsinki Citizens' Assembly National Committee of Azerbaijan Chairwoman Arzu Abdullayeva stated her organization has prepared a new project, under the name Aland Model, for the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The project was discussed with Finnish Ambassador to South Caucasus Terhi Hakala, who told about the practice of using Aland Model in Finland as well as about prospects of its using for the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, Ms Abdullayeva said. In her words, Ms Hakala noted she would inform her country of the negotiations conducted in Baku and proposals that were made. With this purpose, members of the Committee, representatives of the Azerbaijan Parliament and Government, activists of the Organization for Karabakh Liberation, journalists, and representatives of the Azerbaijan and Armenian communities of Karabakh will visit Finland, she added.

The organizers of this visit to the Aland Islands are the Finnish Government and the Aland Islands Peace Institute. "Today's uncertainty meets neither our interests nor interests of the Karabakh Armenians," Ms Abdullayeva said. The new movement For New Karabakh will be created, she added.
