Azerbaijan human rights activists, journalists invited to UN session

A session of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) is to be held in Geneva on November 16-17. Azerbaijan's official report on implementing the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights will be presented at the session. In addition to the official delegation, which represents the Azerbaijan Government, activists of the country's non-governmental organizations are invited to take part in the work of the UN committee. Among them are journalists, representatives of the ombudsman's staff and the third sector. This sector will be represented by the NGO Federation of Human Rights Organizations of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan will give a report on the issue already for the second time. And two alternative reports prepared by non-governmental associations will be presented along with the official one. The first alternative report is made out jointly with the International Federation for Human Rights Leagues (FIDH). Director of the Human Rights Center of Azerbaijan Eldar Zeinalov will present it. The second report, prepared by the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), is drawn up by Director of the Institute of Peace and Democracy Leyla Yunus.
