Complaint on placing student Ragimov into custody lodged to MCC

The family of the student Murad Ragimov, who was detained in Moscow on suspicion of involvement in the Syrian rebel groupings, but later accused of drug possession, gained the support of another advocate, who has already entered the case. An appeal has been lodged against placing Ragimov into custody, which will be considered by the court on September 22.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Murad Ragimov was detained on August 30 on suspicion of involvement in militant formations in Syria and attack on policemen in Dagestan. After power agents found out that Ragimov even had no foreign passport, they searched the apartment for a long time in the presence of their witnesses, and then declared that they had found drugs, relatives of the young man assert. On September 2, the Tushino District Court ruled to place Ragimov in custody as a suspect of illegal possession of drugs.

During detention, Ragimov was brutally beaten, his sister Gyunai told the "Caucasian Knot" earlier. "They handcuffed him and dragged him into the kitchen. They beat up my brother and his father with boxing gloves; they repeatedly used the electric shocker and a table leg. They stuck a knife into my brother's heel and rotated it several times. And this all was done in the eyes of the family members," she said, adding that one of Moscow's hospitals refused to provide medical care to her brother, calling him a terrorist.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt that Ragimov's advocate had appealed against the decision to place Murad in custody, from Gyunai Ragimova, Murad's sister on September 16. She said that the complaint was lodged this week.

"The other day we were provided with another advocate, who will work on my brother's case; now, the advocate Murad Kakhrimanov is entering the case," said the sister.
